An aspiring Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Reagan Amponsah Asare, broke down in tears as police officers took their mugshots following their arrest.

This update was shared in a post on X by Sika Official on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

“One of the suspects arrested alongside NDC Ashanti Regional Organiser hopeful, Reagan Amponsah Asare, burst into tears while police officials took their mugshots after being arrested for allegedly impersonating National Security operatives to extort money from illegal miners in the Western North Region,” the post stated.

The suspects are accused of posing as national security personnel and moving from one galamsey site to another in parts of the Western North Region.

Their alleged modus operandi involved extorting money from illegal mining operators under the guise of carrying out security operations.

The suspects have appeared before the Bodi Circuit Court and have been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
