Soussoudis' case adjourned again

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - An Accra Fast Track High Court trying Michael Soussoudis, an economist on Wednesday ordered that the Attorney General's Office be served with hearing notice to enable it continue with the case.

The order came after prosecution had failed to appear in court. The court, presided over by Mr Justice G.A. Aryeetey noted that prosecution as at 1100 hours had not shown up, adding, "the court had not received any excuse to stay away."

"In the light of this, prosecution should be served with hearing notice", the judge said and adjourned the case to Friday November 5. On October 21, this year, the eighth Prosecution Witness in the case was indisposed and was unable to be in court.

Mrs Naa Meley Wood, a Chief State Attorney, prayed the Court for the adjournment with the hope that the Witness would be in court but at Wednesday's sitting, prosecution did not show up.

Soussoudis is facing two counts of possessing explosives, firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

He had pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is on bail. A team of Police officers, acting upon information, searched Soussoudis residence sometime in April 2001 and allegedly discovered a quantity of arms and explosives in the boys' quarters and his main house.
