Ejisu-Juaben District Best Farmer commends government

Ejisu (Ash), Dec 20, GNA- Nana Fosu Gyeabour II, the Ejisu-Juaben District Best Farmer for 2006, has commended the government for its effort at making agriculture more interesting and attractive to the youth in the country.

He however said, more should be done to increase credit facilities and also reduce interest rates to farmers. Nana Gyeabour, who is the chief of Obenimase near Konongo, made the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ejisu on Tuesday.

He said the introduction of the mass cocoa spraying exercise, supply of fertilizers; the inland valley rice and livestock development and the youth in agriculture programme has boosted agricultural yields in the country.

Nana Gyeabour owns several hectares of cocoa, plantain, coconut, and pineapple farms as well as fishpond at Nobewam.

He advised his colleague farmers to be focused in their activities in spite of difficulties associated with farming. He said he was prepared to share his farming experiences with the youth who had now taken up farming as a career to enable them to have high yields.
