Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has joined Ghanaians and the global community in celebrating Mother’s Day with a message honouring mothers for their strength, sacrifice, resilience, and love.
In a message shared on her social media platforms on May 10, 2026, she highlighted the vital role mothers play in sustaining families, communities, and even national economies, saying their commitment continues to be a major source of inspiration.
She noted that mothers remain a key support system in society, describing their dedication and endurance as qualities that keep households and communities together.
“Today, we recognise the strength, sacrifice, wisdom, and unconditional love of mothers across Ghana and around the world. Mothers hold families, communities, and, in many cases, entire economies together. Their resilience and dedication continue to inspire,” she stated.

The Vice President also used the occasion to highlight government efforts aimed at improving the welfare of women and mothers across the country.
She said various policies are being implemented to promote empowerment, dignity, and greater opportunities for women through targeted social and economic programmes.
According to her, initiatives such as 24-hour markets, the Women’s Development Bank, skills training, apprenticeship schemes, improved access to finance, and the nationwide distribution of free sanitary pads to schoolgirls are all designed to support women economically and expand opportunities for girls.
“As a government, we remain committed to improving the lives of women and mothers through deliberate interventions that promote empowerment, dignity, and opportunity. Through initiatives like the 24-hour markets and the Women’s Development Bank, we are working to create a more inclusive and supportive Ghana. We are also investing in skills training, apprenticeship programmes, access to finance, and the nationwide provision of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls,” she wrote.
She concluded her message by acknowledging all women who play maternal roles, including grandmothers and guardians, and expressing appreciation for their often quiet but significant contributions.
“On this special day, I acknowledge every mother, grandmother, guardian, and woman who plays a maternal role in the lives of others. Your love and service do not go unnoticed,” she added.
