Montie 3 sent to Nsawam Prisons

The radio host and two panelists of Montie FM who were sentenced to four months imprisonment have been sent to the Nsawam Prisons in the Eastern Region.

The three were sent to the prisons around 6:24pm. Their lawyer Edudzie Tamakloe who confirmed this to Kasapa news said the contemnors will be spending most of their jail term there.

The host of ‘pampamso’ political show on Accra-based station Salifu Maase alias Mugabe and two panellists of the station Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn were charged for contempt.

The duo Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn (members of the National Democratic Congress) allegedly threatened to “violently silence” the Supreme Court judges if they made any judgment against the Electoral Commission (EC) in the court case that challenged the validity of the voters’ register as proof of citizenship.

Owners of the station were also fined GHC30, 000 to be paid by Thursday, failure to serve one month jail term.
The contemnors appeared before the Apex court today where they were accordingly sentenced.

Nelson, Ako Gunn and Maase were immediately whisked into a Police van and taken away to the prison where they would serve their sentence.

The accused were found guilty for scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the court and bringing it into disrepute by the court presided over by Justice Sophia Akuffo.
The contemnors apologised for their utterances and actions, but Nelson claimed his outburst was caused by a strange disease known in the local parlance as “kpokpogbligbli.”

The Supreme Court had to adjourn the case to July 18 after the contemnors argued that they were not served with the writ until the morning of the hearing day, a position which was corroborated by the court registrar.
