Military Helicopter Crash: Forensic results of remaining six victims arrive in Accra

The forensic results for the remaining six victims of last week’s military helicopter crash have arrived in Accra from South Africa on Sunday August 10, 2025, and were formally handed over to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The tests, conducted on samples taken from all eight fallen service members, were carried out to confirm their identities and facilitate the release of the bodies to their families.

The samples of the two Muslim victims were prioritised and analysed first. They arrived in the country on Saturday, 9 August 2025, enabling the final Janazah (Islamic funeral) prayers to be held earlier today, Sunday, 10 August 2025, in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Businessman Ibrahim Mahama covered the full cost of the trip to bring the results home was represented at the handover by his special aide, Rafik Mahama.

After receiving the results, Minister Akandoh handed them over to the Inspector-General of Police, COP Tetteh Yohuno for safekeeping.

“We have taken delivery of the final results concerning the remains of our deceased comrades and soldiers to aid in their identification and support ongoing investigations," he said.

He noted that the development represents a critical step toward providing closure for the bereaved families.
