UNICEF Project Making Progress In Upper East

Sandema(U/E), Aug 13, - The Community-Based Development Programme (CBDP) sponsored by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Builsa district is making the desired impact. Papers presented at a day's review workshop held at Sandema indicated that tremendous progress has been made in the health, education, water and sanitation, food security and poverty alleviation sectors of the programme. In the health sector, Dr Jonathan Addah, District Director of Health Services, said a number of traditional health practitioners have been trained and educational campaigns organized on Cholera, Yellow Fever, Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) and Malaria. He said 41 mother-support groups have been organized and field staff of the Ministry of Health educated through workshops and seminars to carry out their duties more efficiently. On education, Dr Addah said inter-schools mock examinations have been held to encourage effective teaching and learning while a school enrolment and retention competition has been instituted. Under the water and sanitation sector, 10 hand-pumps have been repaired in Sandema township and a number of improved latrines constructed.
