President John Dramani Mahama, by virtue of his prerogative powers, has established a five-member committee to investigate petitions filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, seeking her removal from office.
The establishment of the committee is in accordance with Article 146(6) of the constitution and was done in consultation with the Council of State, following the determination of a prima facie case against Chief Justice Torkornoo.
This was announced in an official communication from the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The committee members boast a wealth of experience, with members drawn from various fields, including the Supreme Court, academia, and former positions such as Auditor-General.
Below are the committee members:
Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang
Justice Pwamang of the apex court chairs the committee. He brings extensive legal experience, having served for many years in the country’s judicial system.
He was nominated to the Supreme Court in 2015 based on the recommendation of Judicial Council of Ghana and was subsequently sworn in that same year.
Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu
Also serving on the committee is Justice Adibu-Asiedu, an active member of the Supreme Court who has been on the bench since 1996.
With a strong legal background and decades of experience, he was sworn onto the apex court in 2022.
Daniel Yao Domelevo
The former Auditor-General serves on the committee as a member coming on board with his background experience in public service.
Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo
Major Bazwaanura Dalugo of the Ghana Armed Forces also serves as a member of the committee, contributing her perspective as the body probes the petitions filed against Chief Justice Torkornoo.
Professor James Sefah Dzisah
Representing academia on the committee is an associate professor from the University of Ghana, Legon, who brings extensive academic expertise and insight to the work of the committee.
The committee is expected to present its findings upon the conclusion of its probe into the petitions filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, which may inform any further actions.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has been suspended pursuant to Article 146(10) of the constitution and in accordance with the advice of the Council of State.
