If there is any institution in Ghana that people would least want to cross in recent times, it is the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), led by Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai.
Under his watch, flaunting unearned academic credentials comes at your own peril, as Professor Jinapor, the Director-General of GTEC, and his team have their eyes across the country.
In recent months, Professor Jinapor and his outfit have cracked down on fake titleholders, forcing several individuals to voluntarily drop the honorary doctorate and professor titles they had been using for years.

The Assemblies of God (AG), Ghana, has since directed all its pastors to drop their honorary titles.
But who is Professor Jinapor, the man “terrorising” even members of the ruling government, including deputy ministers and Members of Parliament, without fear or favour?
Before his appointment as Director-General of GTEC by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Professor Jinapor served as Deputy Director-General of the Commission.
He is listed in the Hall of Fame of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), where he worked for several decades, heading multiple departments of the university.

According to his profile on GTEC’s website, Professor Jinapor is an expert in curriculum development and implementation.
He currently serves on the governing boards of several tertiary institutions and organisations, including the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, University of Education (Winneba), and the National Sports Authority.
Though Professor Jinapor himself has no political affiliations, his brothers are well-known political figures.
He is the elder brother of the famous Jinapor brothers, who have played prominent roles in both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Samuel Abu Jinapor served as Deputy Chief of Staff and later as Minister of Lands and Natural Resources during former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Before Samuel’s rise in the NPP government, his older brother, John Abdulai Jinapor, was Deputy Minister of Energy under President John Dramani Mahama. He now serves as Minister of Energy and Green Transition in the current Mahama administration.
About GTEC:
