Birim South inaugurates professional video and photographers' union

Akyem Oda, Feb. 10, GNA-The Birim South District professional video and photographers' union was inaugurated at Akyem Oda with a call on people in the informal sector to honour their tax obligations promptly without coercion.

Mr Ansah Anobah, the Executive Director of SAMLYDS, a computer firm at Akyem Oda said the country needed to raise internally generated funds to support the system "if we are to develop as a nation". He said the practice whereby some people in the informal sector evaded taxes should be a thing of the past if the nation was to move forward.

Mr Anobah therefore, urged the executive of the union to put in the necessary mechanism to ensure that members pay their fees and taxes without fail to generate more revenue towards national development. He said the height attained by the advanced countries came about as a result of payment of taxes by their citizens and urged the revenue collecting agencies not to relent in their efforts to crack down on tax defaulters.

Mr Richard Fiadjoe, chairman of the union appealed to members to go about their duties in a manner that would not cast a slur on their reputation.

He urged members to pay their dues promptly in order to sustain the union.

Mr Fiadjoe assured members that efficient control measures were being put into place to ensure that funds generated were protected and used for their benefits. He advised those who did not register for the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to do so to enable them to access quality healthcare when they fall sick.
