Media General trends following impasse with Manhyia Palace

A delegation from Onua TV at the Manhyia Palace

As has been established by GhanaWeb in a past article, one of the major 'sins' people should never commit, regardless of their status in the country, is disrespecting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Well, the management of Onua TV, Mona Gucci, and Afia Pokua have learned the hard way after the latter's comments on a TV program hosted on Onua TV, which has incurred the wrath of the Asante kingdom and Manhyia Palace.

This incident has caused Media General, the parent company of Onua TV, to top the X trends for Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Afia Pokua, Akufo-Addo, Otumfuo, Manhyia, Ashanti, Nkrumah, and #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse are among the trending topics.

Here’s a breakdown of why these topics are trending:

Media General

Netizens are divided over the outcome of a meeting between traditional leaders of the Manhyia Palace and a delegation from Onua TV, including Afia Pokua, Mona Gucci, Prophet Kumchacha, and others.

An attempt by the Onua TV delegation to apologise to Otumfuo after a statement by Afia Pokua that supposedly disrespected him failed when the elders rejected the apology and dismissed the team from the palace.

It is trending along with Afia Pokua, Otumfuo and Manhyia.

Akufo-Addo

The president is trending for different reasons, but most notably for overseeing a failed economy fraught with hardships, sufferings, corruption, and other ills.

Nkrumah

Images emerged showing how illegal miners are mining on the Subile River right behind the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum at Nkroful in the Western Region.

Ghana’s founder was born and raised in Nkroful.

#ReOccupyJulorbiHouse

Incidents from the Democracy Hub-organized demo and the arrest of 43 individuals, including Oliver Barker-Vormawor, have trended the hashtag.
