Man who posed as a soldier remanded

Juaso,(Ash)Nov. 18, GNA - A 24-year old man who donned a military attire, and paraded the streets of Agogo in the Asante-Akim District, falsely claiming to be a soldier has been remanded by the Juaso circuit court.

Augustine Apprebisah, the alleged fake soldier, pleaded guilty to two counts of impersonation and unlawful possession of firearms. Sentence was however, deferred to Nov 23.

Inspector Francis Bekoe of the Agogo Police, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Jacb B. Boon that the suspect was arrested on November 6 this year, by the Agogo Police when they got wind of his 93show-off=94 on the main streets of the town. He said accused, who was later spotted at a drinking spot told the police that he was a soldier based in Takoradi in the Western Region and had come to visit a brother.

However, accused who was unable to produce his identity card when the police demanded for it, upon interrogation conceded he was not a soldier but failed to explain how he came by the uniform. According to prosecution, a locally-manufactured pistol was found in the bag accused was carrying when a search was conducted on him.
