Hertha Berlin rejects Godwin Attram: Ghanaian youngster, Godwin Attram’s future on the field of play remains bleak as Bundesliga side, Hertha Berlin officials have rejected a proposed $2m for a one year transfer move to Berlin from PSV Eiendhoven. Ghanaian Soccer International, Kwame Ayew, who plays for Portuguese champions, Sporting Lisbon, yesterday opened negotiations with Bundesliga club 1860 Munich. A deal is expected to be signed by Friday. Meanwhile, another German club, Wolfsburg, is also reported to be interested in Ayew as it is awaiting the outcome of the negotiations currently going on between 1860 Munich and the Lisbon striker Kwame Ayew before making any public statement on the Ghanaian Striker.

Nyarko scores but everton looses Tottenham came from two goals behind after 41 minutes to condemn Everton to their second consecutive defeat in a topsy-turvy clash at White Hart Lane.

Sergei Rebrov’s first two goals for his new club, and the winner from Les Ferdinand in 63rd minute, cancelled out earlier first-half Everton strikes from Francis Jeffers and Alex Nyarko as Spurs edged this game of two halves.

It was the home side that started the more competently and Darren Anderton, fresh from his first England appearance under Kevin Keegan, set up an early opportunity with a centre across the face of goal for Steve Carr who missed a sitter from close range.

Everton, with their backs against the wall, started to gain confidence after Mark Hughes saw a speculative effort turned wide by Neil Sullivan.

Carr’s earlier miss was surpassed by Francis Jeffers’ effort after 15 minutes. Defender David Unsworth’s through ball was cleverly dummied by Hughes, allowing Jeffers to beat the offside trap but from 10 yards he pulled his shot wide with the inside of his right foot.

Anderton’s woes continued as he suffered another injury setback, coming off worse following a nasty looking challenge from Unsworth. The midfielder, nicknamed ‘Sicknote’, was unable to continue and had to be replaced by Stephen Clemence in the 18th minute.

The balance of the game had now shifted in favour of the visitors and seven minutes later they profited from a defensive error made by Spurs full-back Ben Thatcher.

In attempting to deal with a hopeful punt forward, he miss-hit a back-pass with his weaker right foot. It allowed Jeffers to nip in and toe his shot under Sullivan to score his third goal of the season and make amends for his earlier miss.

The appearance of George Graham on the touchline coincided with a Steffen Freud drive from 30-yards which Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard needed two attempts to deal with.

Thatcher's miserable night was complete seven minutes before the interval when he was substituted by Mauricio Taricco. He still looked shaky from a collision with Dave Watson a few minutes before Everton's opening goal.

Paul Gascoigne, returning to his former club, was now running the show in the midfield as Everton pressed for a second goal, which eventually arrived in the 41st minute.

New signing Alex Nyoko picked the ball up just inside his own half, ran passed Tim Sherwood before firing low and hard to the right of Sullivan.

However, the restless Tottenham fans were given some glimmer of hope on the stroke of half-time when Ukranian striker Sergei Rebrov, who up until then had been anonymous on the pitch, opened his Tottenham account. He slotted in after Ferdinand's shot came back off a post following a Clemence free-kick.

Ferdinand and Clemence were both involved in the equaliser just after the hour mark. Clemence’s corner was met by the head of Ferdinand that forced a good save from Gerrard but as the ball rebounded back out, it struck a stray Everton hand.

The penalty was awarded and Rebrov stepped up to calmly strike the ball in the bottom left-hand corner.

The comeback was well and truly achieved four minutes later as this game of two halves swayed Tottenham’s way. The impressive Clemence whipped in a cross, which Campbell nodded back for Ferdinand who volleyed into the ground and into the top corner for his second consecutive goal.

Everton were now in danger of being completely over-run and Gerrard had to make a flying save from Oyvind Leonhardsen after Freund had cut the ball back from the byline for the Norwegian to hammer at goal from the edge of the box.

Walter Smith’s response was to throw his dice and gamble with six strikers in search of an equaliser. But even the introduction of Danny Cadamarteri and Joe-Max Moore had little effect as Spurs looked too strong and the more likely to score next.
