Govt votes money for the Apatakesie theatre project

Kumasi, May 13, GNA- Government has earmarked 2.9 billion cedis for the rehabilitation of one of the theatres at the Kumasi Centre for National Culture (CNC) known as "Apatakesie".

Mr Samuel Adjei, Director of the Centre who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, on Thursday said 250 million cedis, had already been released during the first quarter of the year for the project.

He said the theatre, which would be fully equipped with an auditorium, gallery, a stage, changing rooms, offices and sanitary facilities among other facilities, is expected to be completed in a year.

Mr Adjei said it would have a capacity of between 1,200 and 1,500 people.

The "Apatakesie" rehabilitation project started in 1999 but was suspended in 2001 due to lack of funds.
