Another suspect involved in the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama has been arraigned after he was arrested at Denkyira-Boasi on September 14.

He had fled the town after the incident, and returned only thinking the case was over.

Bismarck Abanga, who was arrested at his family house at Denkyira-Boasi, has been charged with two counts and remanded into police custody after appearing at an Accra District Court on Tuesday, September 19.

This brings to 22 – including a woman – the number of persons charged over the gruesome murder of the military officer on May 29, 2017.

They have been provisionally charged with conspiracy to murder and murder.

Major Mahama was the commander of a military detachment stationed at Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region to check the activities of illegal miners, popularly known as galamseyers.

He was lynched by a mob who mistook him for an armed robber.

Accra FM’s Ama Brako Ampofo reported that the prosecutor, DSP George Amegah, urged the court to remand the accused before the trial.

Magistrate Joshua Caleb Abaidoo accordingly remanded Bismark Abanga into police custody until September 25.
