Mahama to Ministers: Implement AG's report or face my anger

According to the president, "failure to implement the AG’s report by the deadline will attract severe sanctions on the Minister concerned."

The president was speaking at the opening of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) where he stated that "I am writing to all Ministers and giving them deadlines for implementation of Auditor General’s report as it pertains to their various MDAs.

"Ministers who are supposed to be the Chairperson of their various ARICS would be required to either surcharge persons for state resources misapplied or in cases where it is recommended hand over to the Attorney General any persons found culpable of misappropriating government finances."

These comments from the president come on the back of several allegations of corruption leveled against government and other high-profile public servants with the latest being the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Madam Lauretta Lamptey who has been accused for misuse of public funds on her accommodation.

Speaking specifically to the CHRAJ issue for the first time, President Mahama said "I have received three petitions in relation to the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) which I have forwarded to Her Ladyship the Chief Justice, who I am certain is working hard to deal with the matter. CHRAJ is an institution that is vital to this nation, and to our battle against corruption."

Tuesday December 9 is International Anti-Corruption Day, and some anti-corruption Civil Society Organisations are calling on citizens to observe the day by hooting at corruption and wearing red to show their abhorrence for corruption.

One other trending corruption saga that hit Ghanaians was the rot that was exposed at the National Service Secretariat where the then head is believed to have paid GH¢98 million to non-existent beneficiaries.

President Mahama said payment of service personnel would now be done through an automatic system using e-zwitch.

He said "the cleaning of the National Service payroll will extend to the larger government payroll in 2015 and will also include organizations that receive government subvention.

"Just last week the Vice President inaugurated a Payroll Task Force. This task force, working on a prepared action plan, will ensure the cleaning of the payroll, thereby enhancing its integrity. It will also ensure that every public servant on the payroll is genuine and has earned the remuneration they are receiving."
