Mahama's inauguration boycott by NPP is unfortunate - Rev. Asante

The Chairman of the National Peace Council Most Rev. Prof Emmanuel Asante has described as unfortunate, the main opposition NPP’s decision to boycott Monday’s inauguration of President Mahama.

The NPP says gracing the inauguration will be defeatist of its Supreme Court challenge of the 2012 election results.

But Rev Prof Asante in an interview with XYZ News said though the NPP has the right to boycott the inauguration; he wishes things had been different.

“The inauguration which would be done on Monday is in tandem with our constitution so as far I am concerned the whole idea that a section is aggrieved and finds it difficult to go there is very unfortunate.

“But I must also say that it is their right, I don’t think that we can compel everybody to an event of that nature, we would have wished that all Ghanaians rallying behind a thing of this nature to facilitate the legitimacy of our presidency” Rev. Asante said.
