Former President Jerry John Rawlings has said that President John Mahama is doing what he can to fight what he calls are the negative tendencies in the country.
According to him, President Mahama’s call for support to tackle corruption must be heeded to by Ghanaians. Mr. Rawlings said he hopes some sanity could be restored in the country in the near future.
The former president made these comments on Thursday when he paid a visit to the family of the late Harry Sawyerr who died on Friday, November 8 to commensurate with the bereaved family.
Former President Rawlings in a subtle manner bemoaned the state of Ghana and said:“I don’t know how Harry would have felt about the situation the country finds herself today”.
He added that “The young president is doing what he can and he has invited all to get involved”
Harry Sawyerr was Education Minister under former President Jerry John Rawlings and later in 2010 made member of the ruling National Democratic Congress' Council of Elders.
Harry Sawyerr was decorated by President John Atta Mills with the highest state honour.
Mr. Sawyerr was a chartered surveyor with many years of successful practice and one of the most revered statesmen, both within the Ghanaian political class and the Ga State.
