25th Commonwealth Sports Awards Held

The 25th Commonwealth Sports Awards has been held in Accra at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The occasion brought together sportsmen and women from every corner of the Commonwealth nations throughout the world.

The Awards had non-governmental recognition from the Commonwealth Secretariat and was endorsed by the Commonwealth Game Federation. The awards encompass all sports across 72 nations. This year's nominations were based on performances between the period July 1 2003 and June 2004.

It was judged by International Panel selected in all the regions of the Commonwealth nations. (Shieh Kok from Malaysia, Al Hamilton the event founder, Denner James Hedrick from South Africa, Gordin Lrving from New Zealand, Louise Martin from Scotland, Annabelle Pennefather from Singapore and Richard Peter Kin from St Lucia.

Thirteen sportsmen and women were honoured for their wonderful performances. Brian Lara was honoured the International Sports personality, Lennox Lewis (Boxing Special), Patsey Pascal (Martial Arts), Dominica (Netball), Andy Cole (Football Professional) Hawkeye FC (football Amateur) and others.

The Commonwealth Sports Awards was conceived by Al Hamilton the founder of the Commonwealth Sports Awards to honour the achievements of sportsmen and women and to encourage the youth and the nations of the commonwealth nations to aspire to greater heights.
