MMT scandal: 5-member committee to investigate suspended MD

A five-member committee is to be set-up to investigate alleged ‘filthy deals’ involving the suspended Managing Director of the Metro Mass Transit Limited(MMT), Bennet Aboagye.

The company will among other things probe the procurement of some 300 new buses by the company allegedly transacted in breach of several procurement laws amidst other allegations.

Mr. Aboagye and a leading member of the NPP, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor were also accused by the workers of attempting to bribe a whistleblower with GHc40, 000 when they were confronted with evidence, an allegation he’s since denied with explanations.

The board of the Metro Mass Transit Limited in the wake of the development on Wednesday ordered the embattled managing director of the company and his personal assistant Yiadom Kesse to proceed on leave with immediate effect to allow investigations to commence into the matter.

The Corporate Communications Manager at the company, George Krobea Asante said the committee shall be convened by Monday and will comprise of up to five representatives drawn from the Ghana Police Service, National Procurement Authority, Ministry of Transport, Labour Expert, and also a member from the board.
