The Head of the Local Government Service, Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah, has urged Regional Coordinating Directors to embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve governance and public service delivery.
Addressing participants at a training programme for Regional Coordinating Directors on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Professor Mensah said effective leadership in today’s rapidly evolving environment requires adaptability, integrity, and a focus on results.
"Leadership must be adaptive, ethical, and results-oriented," he said.

He also encouraged the directors to uphold the core principles of professionalism, neutrality, and accountability while embracing innovation to enhance government operations.
"You must embody the values of professionalism, neutrality, and accountability. You must embrace innovation, leveraging digital tools and artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery," Professor Mensah stated.
According to him, the adoption of digital technologies and AI will transform the delivery of public services by improving planning, financial management, procurement, performance monitoring, and citizen engagement.
"Digital tools will strengthen planning, financial management, procurement, performance monitoring, and citizen engagement," he noted.
Professor Mensah further explained that the training programme is designed to equip Regional Coordinating Directors with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate Ghana’s evolving governance landscape.
"By the end of this programme, you will have gained clarity on your roles within the evolving governance architecture, strengthened your decision-making capacity, acquired practical tools for managing political-administrative dynamics, and built resilience to address emerging security challenges," he said.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme to ensure government policies are translated into meaningful development outcomes for citizens.
