Ashanti Nkrumaists Stand Firm Behind Accord

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 5 Nov. Leaders of three Nkrumaist parties in Ashanti have made it clear that the memorandum of understanding signed by their leaders and the Council of Elders of the CPP is final. The parties are the People's Convention Party (PCP), the National Convention Party (NCP) and the People's National Convention (PNC). In a statement, they said what is now needed is for all ''CPPists'' to respond to the call to join hands to rebuild a strong and viable party. The statement, issued in Kumasi today, was signed by Mr Kwasi Prempeh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the PCP, Nana Obeng Fofie, Regional Chairman of the NCP, and Nana Albert K. Ansah, Regional Chairman of the PNC. The statement noted that whereas this feat has been hailed by former CPPists and others throughout the country, there are a few who still feet hurt by this laudable decision and have started moves to thwart the peaceful take-off of the unity accord. It said barely three weeks after signing the document, some leading members of the NDC are going round the regions to entice Nkrumaists and others to cause disaffection and disunity in their ranks. The statement said "some false and disillusioned elements, most of them noted for their roles as political acrobats who served as ministers in the first republic, as well as political appointees in the PNDC era, have been lured or hired to cause confusion in the CPP camp in a bid to dislodge the envisaged unity". It said the ranks of the PCP, NCP and PNC in Ashanti cannot be penetrated in spite of moves and manoeuvres by the NDC to split their ranks, as it has done in Sunyani, and called on all true Nkrumaists to stand firm and be resolute and plan well for the future.
