Fourteen Transport Unions Come Together

Fourteen commercial transport unions have come together to form the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council to serve as an umbrella organisation for all private sector road transport organisations.

A statement signed by Mr Charles Ankomah, General Secretary of the Council in Accra on Monday said the organisations are; The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Kingdom Transport Services (KTS) Limited, Ghana Co-operative Transport Association, Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Ghana Road Haulage Association, Trans-Ecowas Express and Vanef-STC.

The others are Ghana Haulage Truck Drivers Association, OSA Limited, Car Rental Association of Ghana, Labour Enterprises Trust Company Limited (LET), City Express, Agate Transport and Concerned Transport.

Each of the organisations has a minimum of two representatives on the council but the number could be increased for those with a fleet of 1,000 passenger or cargo vehicles in at least three regions.

The Council seeks to co-ordinate the activities, sustain and protect the interests of member organisations, resolve conflicts among themselves and determine tariffs and fares.

It also aimed at affiliating with international road transport organisations such as the International Transport Federation, solicit incentives from government and appropriate bodies for its members and to promote road safety.

Mr Felix Kwame Semavor of KTS is the Chairman, Mr Kojo Moses of Ghana Road Haulage Association, first Vice Chairman and Mr James Owusu-Bonsu, Chief Executive , Vanef-STC, second Vice Chairman and Mr Dennis Vormawor, Chief Executive of LET, treasurer.
