Controversial private legal practitioner, lawyer Maurice Ampaw is pushing for the legislation of torture against mob attackers to deter others from doing so.

The lawyer’s call follows the lynching of a military officer, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, by residents of Denkyira Obuasi.

The lawyer was answering a question posed to him by Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm on whether mob attackers should be sentenced to death.

The lawyer described death sentence as an old age law and a bad legal practice which should not be entertained.

Vengeance he explained is of the Lord hence death sentence should not be the solution to crime like mob attacks rather, ‘’I will call for legal torture against such people. Torture should be legalized. We should legalize torture for those people, we should torture them and profess inhuman treatment on them. We should make the torture open and video it to serve as a lesson to others who murder people or lynch people. Murder will always be recorded but we should find ways to minimize it,’’ he concluded.

Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama of the 5th Infantry Battalion was lynched and burnt at Denkyera-Obuasi on Monday after he was mistaken for an armed robber.

The late military officer was among others deployed to combat illegal mining activities ongoing at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
