Laurreta Lamptey: ‘I only followed precedence at CHRAJ’

The suspended CHRAJ boss Lauretta Lamptey has stated that she was only following precedence at the anti-graft agency in the accommodation imbroglio that led to her suspension by the President.

She said she did not compel CHRAJ to alter the laid down procedure for housing its Commissioners to her advantage.

President Mahama suspended the CHRAJ boss Tuesday after several allegations of misappropriation of funds were levelled against her last year.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani said “the suspension follows the establishment of a prima facie case against Ms. Lamptey by the Chief Justice, and the setting up of a five (5)-member committee to investigate complaints made against her.”

Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, Friday, Ms. Lamptey revealed that she did not have a hand in deciding where to live while she served as the substantive boss of the anti-corruption agency.

“I was told the Commission had to rent a house for me, it wasn't a decision on my part.

“It was policy which CHRAJ has had for several years. And CHRAJ had done so for my predecessor since 2002 and it had never been raised as an abuse of office.

“The Commission renting in order to offer accommodation to a Commissioner or deputy has never been discussed the way it’s been discussed now. Suddenly, when mine was approved, it became; I’m renting,” she bewailed.
