Security personnel educated on sexual reproductive issues

Kumasi (Ashanti Region), 23 April, A Medical Officer has acknowledged that even though blood is properly screened at hospitals before it is accepted for transfusion, there is still no full guarantee that they are free of the HIV virus. Dr. Yaw Adu-Sarkodie of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), stressed that there are instances where blood passed as being negative, later turned out to be positive. He was speaking on the topic "Sexually-Transmitted Diseases (STD AIDS)" at a symposium organised by the Ashanti Regional branch of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) and sponsored by USAID for security agencies in the Ashanti Region in Kumasi. The theme was "Involving the security personnel in sexual reproductive health issues" and was attended by 100 personnel from the Army, Police, Prisons, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS).
