Lyon Move To Second: Great Essien Goal

A wonderful solo strike by Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien was the icing on the cake, as Olympique Lyonnais demolished Bordeaux 3-0 and moved to second in the table. Lyon outplayed Bordeaux for most of the game and were rewarded by three second-half goals.

Lyon's Malouda and Carri?re came close in the first half, but Bordeaux managed to keep a clean shit until the break.

Yet, Lyon broke the deadlock on 65 minutes, when defender Patrick M?ller volleyed home after good work by Govou and Juninho in the build-up. Pegguy Luyindula doubled the reigning champions' lead two minutes later, with a fine header at the near post, from a Juninho free-kick.

About ten minutes from time, Essien netted a wonderful solo strike to compound Bordeaux's misery. Essien beat the unfortunate Ram? with a powerful effort from outside the area, after a surging run.

This victory enables Lyon to leap-frog PSG and reach second place, 6 points behind Monaco. Bordeaux stay in 7th position.
