Kufuor angry with Kwabena Agyepong

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is said to be very angry. His rage, The Informer has learnt, stems from the fact that the arrogant posture of the Party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, is becoming unbecoming.

According to a close confidant (name withheld), though, former President John Kufuor disagrees with the conduct of some Nana Addo loyalists among the National Leadership (National Executive Committee) of the Party, he frowns on Kwabena Agyepong’s, “Tell them, I am eating fufu in Kumasi,” comment as reported by the media.

“Kwabena may not be wrong to question the motive behind the said emergency meeting when the National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko, has indicated that there will be a steering committee meeting on May 12: But the response that he (Kwabena) is ‘eating fufu’ smacks of arrogance,” the ex-President is on record to have said.

According to the source, former President Kufuor added that, he has never regretted sacking Kwabena Agyepong as his Press Secretary, because of his arrogance.

This insider also revealed that, Mr. John Kufuor is not happy about the breakdown of Party structures; and holds the view that if Nana Addo does not call his men to order, he will ‘see canaan, but will not step’ there.

Asked what the former President meant; he said, “all that he (Kufuor) is saying is that, unless Nana Addo and his men come to respect the party structures and ensure unity in the party, it will be difficult for him to win the 2016 elections”.

Rebuttal

An aide (name withheld) to the NPP flagbearer, has called the bluff of Kwabena Agyepong, saying, the Party does not belong to him, when The Informer reached him for comments to the response of his Party’s General Secretary; as he seeks to question the motive behind Monday, May 4, 2015 emergency Steering Committee meeting chaired by Mr. Freddie Blay.

According to him, Kwabena has no authority questioning why the NPP First National Vice Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay, called for the meeting; besides, demanding to know the motive behind the meeting.

“Why, has the Party’s Constitution been changed? As the First National Vice Chairman of the NPP, Hon Freddie Blay has all the right to call for an emergency meeting per the provisions of the Party’s Constitution”, this aide pointed out.

“As far as I am concerned, Hon. Freddie Blay hasn’t committed any crime since he did not act against the provisions of the NPP Constitution; so Kwabena should give us a break with his arrogance.

"In fact, all those who thought that Kwabena will be a better General Secretary than Sir John will begin to revise their notes,” he added.

However, Mr. Freddie Blay in defending his action said; “What we did is constitutional… It is not a question of asking for somebody’s consent before taking a decision”.
