Kufour: More Than A Pathological Liar

Just about a month ago, former President John Kufour was in Marshall-town, South Africa. He went there as guest of honor at a ceremony to launch a book on Africa's under-development. During the ceremony, the former President took to the stage to address the honorable attendees. In his speech, John Kufour stated that right leadership is the key to Africa's development. In my opinion, he did say it right. The question is; did he (Kufour) practice what he told the honorable guests? Better yet, as an ex leader, how honest and patriotic was he? Kufour is said to be an Oxford University BA degree holder in economics. So, most naturally, Kufour should know a thing or two about how to manage an economy. However, during his eight-year long tenureship, not once did he demonstrate his prowess in economics, let alone the adequate management of an economy. For instance; here's a man--under whose administration millions, if not billions of dollars, were made. Sadly, none of these monies were invested in Ghana’s economy. These monies, more or less, evaporated. The over-expenditure, mismanagement, and recklessness--which characterized his administration, depleted these monies to none.


Exactly a year after his Party was booted out of government, Ghana was back at the World Bank and the IMF with a beggar’s cup in hand. On the subject of patriotism, the less said about the former President, the better. Folks, when the NPP Party was in power, it did the unthinkable to Ghanaian-owned businesses. For instance; contracts--which should've been given to them, were awarded to outsiders. As a result, Ghanaian-owned businesses couldn't employ Ghana's unemployed. For Ghanaian-owned businesses, the absence of money meant the absence of job creation for the masses. In short; Ghanaian-owned businesses were, more or less, neglected by Kufour's administration. Today, armed-robbery is in full swing across the country due to the absence of jobs. And, who is to blame for this? Ever since anyone of us could remember, Ghana has been digging out gold. In fact, when it comes to countries with the highest production of gold, Ghana is listed in the top ten. Gold, as you all know, could be used to back a currency to make it stronger. For years, the United States has been using gold to back its currency. Hence, the power of the dollar.


Ex President Kufour is an economist. At least, this is what we have been told. This means, he too could've suggested that we use gold to back our currency during his presidency. However, not once did he propose this idea during his eight-year long tenureship. Therefore, the question is; did he know or didn’t he know? I am sure that he knew, but he was too unpatriotic and wicked to care. But then, ex President Kufour, I believe, was more tilted towards the Corporate interests of the West. The interests of Ghana wasn’t his first priority, let alone his second or third. Folks, when it comes to honesty, the former President is anything but honest. Like Rawlings said, Kufour is a pathological liar. Kufour's political career aside, what interests me the very most is this; how did Kufour end up a lawyer in Kumasi after his studies in Oxford University without a law degree in hand? Yes, folks, between the period of 1965-69, Kufour was a private law practitioner in Kumasi. Now, before anyone could practice law, that person would have to be a certified lawyer with a law degree in hand. In the case of Kufour, however, there isn't a single shred of evidence--which indicates that he holds a degree in law.


According to rumor, Busia introduced Kufour to his former supervisor at Oxford University, who assured him of a place to read law if he (Kufour) passed his bar exam. Kufour complied and successfully passed his bar exam in 1961. However, after a year of reading law, Kufuor decided his true interest lay in politics. He therefore switched to read philosophy, politics, and economics in which he graduated in a record two years. Mind you, nowhere does it state that Kufour graduated with a law degree in hand. Yes, he may have passed his bar exam. However, after a year of reading law, Kufuor dropped-out. He abandoned the study of law to pursue philosophy, politics, and economics. So, folks, is this the same as holding a degree in law? Better yet, how does one drop-out from a particular study and end up with a degree without graduating? One thing is clear, Kufour was practicing his law profession in Kumasi illegally. Better yet, he was using fraudulent academic titles to practice his law profession. Which, to me, makes the former President an academic fraudster-a charlatan. The question in need of an answer is; how did he get to practice law in Kumasi without being suspected of foul play? Did he lie or didn't he lie to acquire this position? Your guess is as good as mine.
