A visually impaired officer of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has accused outgoing Executive Director Kobby Acheampong of physically assaulting him.

Jacob Adongo, an Information Technology (IT) officer at GYEEDA, told TV3 on Friday, June 26 that Mr Acheampong slapped him “terribly” twice and hit his head against a wall.

The GYEEDA Executive Director, Kobby Acheampong as he is widely known, has since denied the accusation.

Mr Adongo said the incident happened on the corridors of GYEEDA on Friday, when he was taking some journalists to see the devastating effects of the flood on some parts of the Agency’s building.

The journalists had come to verify reports of a demonstration by some staff of the Agency against Kobby Acheampong for allegedly ordering the arrest of the Human Resource Manager, Selorm Attipoe.

“After that interaction, I followed one of the journalists back towards our down floor to show him the flooding that had occurred and in the corridor, [Kobby Acheampong] was passing by and I was also passing. I was leading the journalists," Mr Adongo narrates.

“My left leg touched Kobby Acheampong small and he slapped me twice terribly and pushed my head to hit a wall nearby,” the visually impaired officer further recounted, adding that he drew the attention of Mr Acheampong to his physical defect but the former Deputy Interior Minister will not budge.

“Upon that I went to the police and picked police report and picked a medical form,” Mr Adongo said.

There has been tension at GYEEDA recently following the arrest of the HR Manager.

According to reports, Mr Attipoe had been accused of illegally recruiting workers for the Agency against the orders of Mr Acheampong.

Therefore, workers of the Agency accuse the outgoing Executive Director as being behind Mr Attipoe’s arrest hence, Friday’s demonstration against Mr Acheampong.
