Ken Agyapong’s attacks on EC boss justified – Edmund Kyei

A member of the New Patriotic Party communications team is infuriated by the storm of criticism against Kennedy Agyapong for his alleged unsavoury comment at the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

Edmund Kyei believes the attacks at the Assin Central legislator is “unfair” and smack of “hypocrisy”, especially those uttered by Nana Oye Lithur and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Tetteh.

Mr. Agyapong is reported to have accused the EC boss of trading sex for her position – a statement which has roundly been criticized by civil society groups, including Nana Oye Lithur and Hanna Tetteh, who have called on the MP to retract and apologise.

Speaking in an interview with this reporter, Edmund Kyei questioned Oye Lithur and Ms. Tetteh whether they have ever condemned similar attacks directed at Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekufful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West.

In the estimation of Mr. Kyei, the MP did nothing wrong in uttering those words at Mrs. Charlotte Osei, stressing that “what’s important is for Ghanaians to request for evidence”, rather than attacking his personality.

He stressed, “Both women are ministers and were in this country when people mischievously labeled Mrs. Ekufful as the mistress of Nana Akufo-Addo. Did they come public to condemn it? They were mute as if they never existed.

“These NDC cohorts who have instantly joined the bandwagon to condemn Mr. Agyapong should give us a break. Ghanaians are tired of their arrogance. This is complete nonsense!”

Mr. Kyei did not end his frustrations there as he chastised the media for indulging in what he described as “selective reportage”.

“Has the media ever enquired from Madam Tetteh what happened to the allege sex tape of her son? She has no moral right to comment on this matter, let alone attacking Mr. Agyapong’s personality,” the NPP communicator furiously stated.
