Kantamanto on Fire Again: Major inferno contained at Tazani Lane after 3-hour battle

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully contained a major fire that ravaged commercial structures at Kantamanto Tazani Lane near Ecobank in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The GNFS received a distress call at 1:31 AM, with the first fire appliance arriving just 11 minutes later at 1:42 AM.

The scale of the blaze necessitated a massive response, involving a total of seven fire engines and a turntable ladder.

Resources were deployed from multiple stations, including Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, and Legon, with additional support from the National Headquarters.

After nearly three hours of intense firefighting efforts, the blaze, which had gutted several commercial properties, was confined by 4:49 AM.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong led a team of senior officers, including the Director of Operations and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, to the scene to assess the situation and provide direct operational support.

No injuries have been reported so far, and GNFS personnel remain on-site to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

Investigations are expected to commence immediately to determine the cause of the destructive blaze.
