Kantaga UK celebrate annual get together

and KAT @ 50

Once again Katanga UK has made a big splash. The usual annual celebration of the greatest hall on the campus of KNUST was this time marked with huge enthusiasm and large numbers, who trooped to the North London borough of Enfield to witness and celebrate the great occasion.

The spirit of Katanga never dies as they say, and this mantra is a manifestation of the motto of the hall ‘rest not’. Truly and truly fellows never rested on the day.

The day saw fellows from all year groups, fellowaas (wives of fellows) and fellowlets (sons and daughters of fellows) coming together to enjoy the spirit, unity and friendship displayed by fellows.

The theme of the event was the role of fellows in development of its alumni, the hall, the university and Ghana in general. The president of the Association Dr Nana Apraku Oppong reiterated the importance of friendship and unity among fellows and asked members to extend similar attitudes to the students in the hall and promote the Katanga agenda in all aspects of life. He congratulated the executives for successfully organising the event and asked members to patronise the association by paying their dues and attending all Katanga UK programmes. The vice president S.K. Nuamah commended fellows for holding high the flag of Katanga and abiding at all times to the spirit and letter of their hall anthem, which categorically states that Katanga hall is a hall of gentlemen and a hall of intellectuals. Special mention must go to the rest of the executives for a job well done, secretary- David Lartey, vice secretary- Wisdom Gasu, organising secretary- Benjamin Koomson and financial secretary- James Obuobi.

The event was inundated with food and drinks and interspersed with highly chanted Gyama led by the great Lord Soso (Prince Yawson) and Majik (Forson Anaafi Temeng). In an effort to kick start the grand agenda to support the needy in Ghana, fellows donated used clothing, bicycles & tricycles and used phones to be given to the needy.

Fellows agreed to meet once a year as always, but also organise mini events in individuals’ homes as a way to strengthen the family bond that exists among katangees.
