KATH elevators down; patients carried in wheelbarrows

Patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are going through tough times with the breakdown of five of the eight elevators at the health facility.

Most patients have been forced to move up and down stairs much to their discomfort, TV3 gathers.

The breakdown of the elevator at the Maternity Block of the Hospital is what is creating more problems as pregnant women struggle up and down six flights daily.

Florence Adu, a pregnant woman, complained to TV3 on News 360 that some pregnant women have been carried in wheelbarrows after moving up and down the stairs.

An engineer at the Hospital, Gregory Peters, said the situation is getting out of hand as there is pressure on operational elevators, which he observed may break down as a result.

He said the situation becomes worrying, especially at times the hospital is to receive emergency cases.

“We need not less than Ghc80,000 to replace each lift,” he said.
