Boakye-Djan Says He Has No Regrets For AFRC Actions

The spokesman for the erstwhile Armed Forces Revolutional Council (AFRC) that stated the June 4th 1979 uprising, Major (Retired) Kojo Boakye-Djan says, he never regrets for any actions that were taken by the council, when it succeeded in ousting the military regime then led by General Kutu Acheampong.

Major Boakye-Djan said on Peace Fm on Tuesday that, during the AFRC’s 112 days stay in office, the constitution of the country was upheld, and parliament was allowed to function, although it was a military regime that was ruling then.

He reiterated that, the June 4th uprising did not kill anybody, as is being alleged by some people. Major Boakye-Djan who was the architect of the uprising noted that, only two (2) sets of people died during the uprising, who comprised people sanctioned by the government and those who were killed in action.

He stated that everything done by the council at the time was done in the interest of the country. He said he called for a commission of enquiry into the works of the council after it handed-over power to the People’s National Party (PNP) government in September 1979, led then by Dr. Hilla Limann, but this was to no avail.

He has however challenged anybody he claims to have evidence that the AFRC committed unlawful acts, to go to the National Reconciliation Commission and make their submission, so that he as the spokesman would come out to react.

According to Major Boakye-Djan, he only regrets the loss of life of some innocent people who were killed in action, including one Col. Enin.
