GHACEM donates wagons To GRC

Takoradi, August 27, GNA- GHACEM, producers of cement, on Wednesday presented five wagons worth 50,000 dollars to the Ghana Railway Company (GRC) to improve GRC's bulk haulage operations.

Dr Gheysika A. Agamblia, a Deputy Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways who received the wagons, urged the company to put them to good use to enhance its revenue generation.

He noted with satisfaction the positive relationship between Ghacem and GRC and said it is "a fine example of inter-corporate cooperation" worthy of emulation by other organisations.''

He appealed to GHACEM to intensify its marketing efforts so that GRC would haul more of the bulk cement to enable it to generate revenue. GRC in 2002 hauled 39,140 tonnes of cement and as at July this year, it has hauled 36,500 tonnes of the commodity to marketing centres. Dr. Agambila said transporting of cement by rail is more economical and it reduces stress on the country's roads thereby increasing their lifespan and fuel consumption.

He urged the GRC to live up to expectation and improve its overall efficiency.

Mr Giv Brantenberg, General Manager of GHACEM, said the donations would enhance the operations of GRC and it would benefit the two companies. He commended the ministry for dredging the Takoradi port and said this has improved the port's operations significantly.

''The donation is also in appreciation of the good relationship between GHACEM and the GRC and it is our hope that this will strengthen the bonds between the two companies.''
