The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has recounted the events that transpired at the house of the MP for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, during an attempted arrest in connection with suspicious flights that the latter said landed in Ghana in March.
In an interview with Channel One TV on April 9, 2025, he narrated how the events unfolded.
He stated that when he arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call, he saw that the placed had been besieged by heavily-armed men in plain clothes.
“… If you see the people who come to the house - you showed a few photos and I would be glad if you can show them - if you see the people who came to the house in balaclavas; some like ninjas just showing their eyes, fully armed with AK 47 et cetera. When I was going to the house around 2pm, I had to literally manoeuvre my way through… and ask them to excuse me. It was scary,” he narrated.
He added that in spite of his years of experience in government, the sight of the men numbering over twenty and wielding guns was unnerving, given that he was unsure of their identities.
He explained that the supposed security team came in three different groups and did not carry any valid identity cards.
“There were three layers of them. There was this group, then there was reinforcement from the police. Then there was a third group who didn’t appear armed, but some were wearing batakari et cetera. They were wearing COVID masks. You could see them wearing COVID masks. It was some of them who came in to have the meeting with us, but they had their side arms on them,” he added.
According to the MP for Ofoasi-Ayirebi, when they inquired about who sanctioned the arrest, they said that they were directed by the Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Rev John Ntim Fordjour.
He explained that when they demanded for the arrest warrant, one of the officers stated that he was the warrant.
In furtherance of his point, he noted that they told the men that there were twelve or thirteen lawyers at the meeting and did not buy into their argument that they could pick up the Assin South MP under the pretext that an officer was the warrant.
The men numbering over twenty eventually withdrew from the house after a meeting with the NPP executives who were present at Ntim Fordjour’s house.
