Stars To Go All Out, But Fans Want Nigeria To Qualify

The chairman of the Ghana Football Association Ben Koufie says Ghana has no intention of making any comprises against Nigeria in their last world cup qualifier in Port Harcourt on 29th of this month. This follows speculation that the Black Stars may play it soft against the Super Eagles of Nigeria due to what has become known as football for oil deal.

The assertion that Ghana will concede to Nigeria is further given credence by the fact that Ghana has no stake in qualifying for the world cup to be staged in Japan-Korea 2002.

Speaking to Joy fm, Mr Koufie observed Ghana’s image and pride supersedes any other interest that could possibly be advanced to make the Black Stars succumb to the Super Eagles.

Mr. Koufie debunked allegations that the government will impress upon the G.F.A to encourage the Black Stars to play it soft against Nigeria.

Meanwhile, many Ghanaian soccer fans seem to be in favour of Nigeria representing Africa for the 2002 World Cup.

The trend can be attributable to the failure of the Black Stars to qualify for the year 2002 Japan/Korea World Cup, after Liberia’s victory over Sierra Leone.

Some soccer fans preferred the Super Eagles of Nigeria to George Oppon-Weah’s Lone Star making it for the World Cup.
