The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) averted a major disaster after swiftly containing a fire outbreak at the Dodowa Market in the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
According to a GNFS statement dated October 16, 2025, the Service received a distress call at 1:25 AM, and firefighters from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I, Simon Sosu, responded promptly, with additional support from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations.
The fire was brought under control at 3:06 AM and completely extinguished at 4:51 am.

The incident resulted in the partial damage of six metal containers and the complete destruction of twelve others, along with their contents.
“The fire partially damaged six (6) metal containers and completely destroyed twelve (12) others along with their contents,” the statement said.
However, firefighters managed to salvage over 50 market sheds and several metal containers, successfully preventing the flames from spreading across the entire market.
No fatalities or injuries were recorded during the incident.
The GNFS commended the operational leadership of ACFO II Osmond Anum, Deputy Director of Operations, and other officers from the Tema Region for their effective coordination.

The Service also expressed appreciation to supporting agencies for their collaboration and assistance during the fire management operation.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
