Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has raised an alarm over the rising trend of attacks on security personnel in the country.
Speaking to GhanaWeb on November 13, 2025, the IGP condemned the usual attacks by irate youth on soldiers attached to NAIMOS, as well as other similar incidents.
According to him, these actions result from indiscipline among the country's youth, which he believes has emboldened them to confront security personnel.
"Of late, there has been this frequent attack on police and military, especially our police stations, and recently too, the NAIMOS operation around Hwidiem, where the military officers were attacked and they had to be rescued by police officers, and the situation was so tense. It appears this is what is the trend now, that any least thing, people have to mobilize to attack the police.
"See, we are living in a country where now the indiscipline is very high. They are emboldened into such a situation where now they don't fear police, they don't fear military, and they feel that now they can just confront us," Yohuno said.
Yohuno also recounted a similar incident in which angry young individuals attacked a police station, demanding the release of a suspect who had been arrested.
"Recently, you saw what happened in Ehi, in the Volta region, when the suspect was arrested, the people were demanding that the suspect be released. They ended up breaking the police station, releasing the suspect, and the person was nearly lynched," he added.
The IGP added that if these issues are not addressed, they could pose a danger to the country, as security personnel might be compelled to step back from protecting citizens amid attacks.
“… If we allow this thing to go on in this country, then a time will come when there will be nobody to protect any citizen in terms of difficulty,” he warned.
