Indefinite load shedding exercise to officially start on Wednesday

The Electricity Company of Ghana would officially start an indefinite nationwide load shedding exercise on Wednesday.

PRO of the company, William Boateng, told XYZ News that the exercise will continue until adequate power is produced by the VRA for distribution.

Meanwhile, the VRA has been giving reasons why they are facing generation deficit of about five hundred megawatts.

This, according to them, has necessitated a load shedding exercise by the Electricity Company Ghana (ECG).

The first one is that we have quite a number of plants that are undergoing planned maintenance works. The second one is that one of our plants at Aboadze is undergoing and…we need to put the gas turbines off creating a deficit of about two megawatts.

The third reason is that we have had very erratic supply of gas from Nigeria over the past couple of weeks and that has affected our operations.

In a related development the Energy and Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is expected to leave for Nigeria for talks on Gas supply.

Currently, there is a shortage in the supply of gas from Nigeria to increase power production.

Power producers have announced a load management exercise due to generation challenges.

But President Mahama has called for calm among Ghanaians.

He is still optimistic the current energy crisis will be fixed soon.

Speaking in the Western Region, Mahama begged for more time to address current energy crisis.
