Positive Mood Continues On Stock Exchange

Accra,(Greater Accra) 20 Oct. Trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange continued its positive mood today with six equities appreciating and without a loss. The GSE All-Share index ended 2.71 points better at 477.59 points, up from 474.88 points. Total capitalization also edged to 2,923.08 billion cedis from Friday's 2,919.11 billion cedis. On the trading floor, the manufacturing sector was in buoyant trading but narrow range, except for Aluminium Works (ALW) which benefited from a bulk purchase by an institutional investor. Volume of shares traded was 2,144,900 compared with 496,320 last Friday's, with bids closing at 29.9 million against offers of 2.6 million. ALW's 2,112,600 on offer were all picked up in bulk, pushing its share price up by 200 cedis to 2,100 cedis. ''This is a positive reflection of the performance of the manufacturing sector as indicated by their good half-year turnovers....'' one market player said. Other gainers were Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL), up 10 cedis to 600 cedis, Fan Milk Limited (FML), Kumasi Brewery Limited and Super Paper Products Company, all gaining five cedis each to reach 520 cedis, 960 cedis and 115 cedis respectively. Enterprise Insurance Company (EIC) closed the day with a three-cedi gain at 673 cedis. The following are the last prices of listed equities quoted in cedis:
