The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged civil society groups to ensure that the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts free and fair elections in December 2024.

Asiedu Nketiah stressed the importance of these organizations collaborating with them to demand a transparent electoral process, which would lead to the acceptance of the election results.

"Let me use this opportunity to reiterate our call to the Ghanaian population, particularly through civil society organizations, chiefs, opinion leaders, leaders of faith-based organizations, etc., to join us to demand more transparency and fairness, which is a necessary precondition for peaceful elections.

"Anyone who is interested in peaceful elections must begin by demanding transparency and fairness," he said while addressing the media at a press conference.

The NDC national chairman cautioned that if civil society groups remain passive and allow the EC to treat them unfairly, his party will not yield to any pressure to concede defeat merely for the sake of peace.

"In the elections, you don't sleep over injustice and then come around to call the one who is being treated unfairly to secure peace for the country. We shall not be the victims of peace. If we all want peace, let us work towards it, and the starting point is to ensure that there is fairness. If there is fairness, everybody would be comfortable," he remarked.

In the meantime, the various political parties are gearing up for the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
