One of the heritage trains belonging to renowned Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, currently on display at the Red Clay Studios in Tamale, has been burnt to ashes.
In a post on his Facebook page on February 19, 2026, the artist stated that the incident happened on the night of February 18 after sparks from ongoing nearby repairs caused the outbreak.
Fortunately, according to him, no lives were lost, and the Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly to the scene.
“Yesterday night we had the tragic misfortune of losing one of our trains to fire due to sparks from ongoing repairs. No one was injured, thankfully.
“Special thanks to the National Fire Service for their response and all members of our community within the locality,” he posted.
The popular Red Clay Studios, based in Tamale, the heart of the Northern Region, gained popularity for its display of old trains and planes, serving as a major tourist attraction in the region.

Ibrahim Mahama was recently granted a diplomatic passport by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his contributions towards the tourism sector in Ghana.
Expressing his grief in the Facebook post, Mahama noted the difficulties in acquiring the train but noted that he and his crew are not deterred by the incident.
“This was one of the most difficult objects to collect almost two years ago and the last in line for body repairs due to the rust it had accumulated over the years. Our hearts may be broken, but our spirits are as high as ever,” he added.
