The economy of Ghana will “become stronger and more robust than ever before” after the three-year bailout programme with the International Monetary Fund, according to President John Mahama.
The West African country is currently at the Breton-wood institution seeking remedies to its ailing economy as the Cedi struggles to matchup with major currencies such as the US Dollar and the Euros.
President Mahama has told Ghanaians that going to the IMF comes with a lot of benefits and Ghanaians will be witnesses to the outcome in the next few years.
According to him, this may be the last time “we will have to go to the IMF for any such programme…This will be the IMF programme to end all programmes.”
Speaking to a section of Ghanaians at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome him from the UAE, the First Gentleman said Ghanaians must back the government “as we begin this IMF programme” in order to realise “our development goals.”
President Mahama was welcomed home by high ranking officials such as the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani, Defense Minister Ben Kunbour, and Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah among others.
