I was butchered, but still alive – Araba Tagoe

Firebrand politician, Araba Tagoe has admitted that she was indeed butchered with a cutlass by her assailant on the night of last Monday.

She, however, hinted that she is not dead, as is being speculated by a section of the Ghanaian media. On Friday, news broke out that the deputy Western regional Women Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Araba Tagoe, had passed on after being butchered with a cutlass.

Speaking in an interview with a section of the media on her hospital bed, Araba Tagoe disclosed that she decided to break her silence on the assault on her life because of the wide spread speculation in the Ghanaian media over her alleged demise.

“I was butchered with cutlass by my assailant, but I want to put it on record that I am not dead as is being proclaimed by some media houses. I am recovering by God’s grace as you can see”, she noted.

Sounding religious, Araba observed that: “for those of you who wish me dead, let me remind you that we Christians believe that it is God who takes life and not humans”, she said.

For now, the Takoradi Regional Police Command has arrested the gentleman, whose name was given as Kwame, suspected to have buttered the political firebrand. However, Araba Tagoe wants the Police to release her alleged assailant, because she believes that the suspect might have been spiritually possessed to carry out the dastardly act.

“I know Kwame, he comes to my house to eat and there is no way he can hurt a fly, more or less me. If I had my way, I would want the Police to release him”, she pleaded. Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, together with other prominent politicians, last Tuesday visited Araba Tagoe on admission at the hospital

Scores of other politicians, supporters of Sekondi Hassacas, members of the clergy and a host of other well meaning people and sympathizers of the deputy Women Organizer have called at the hospital to console her.

It will be recalled that on Monday night, the suspected assailant who stays close to Araba Tagoe’s house stormed the residence of the victim, and without provocation subjected her to cutlass wounds and almost succeeded in taking her life.

The victim was reportedly sitting in front of her house when her assailant, out of the blue, pounced on her. It took the combined efforts of the victim’s two daughters to fight and rescue their mum (Araba) from the hands of the suspects.

Araba sustained head and bodily wounds, as a result of the cutlass attack she suffered at the hands of her assailant. One of the daughters is also reported to have sustained cutlass wounds as result of the struggle, she together with her sister put up in an attempt to rescue their mother from the hands of the suspect.
