The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Goldbod, Sammy Gyamfi, has opened up on how we was linked to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives who were all in the line of duty.

Speaking on Joy FM on Friday, September 19, 2025, Gyamfi confirmed that he was supposed to be on the flight on that fateful day, August 6, 2025, to attend an anti-illegal mining event in Obuasi.

According to him, he lost close friends and colleagues in the tragic helicopter crash, adding that its remembrance brings back painful memories.

Confirming a question from the presenter of the show, he said; “That's true. That's another day story. Anytime I remember that, it brings very sad memories. And those were my very close friends and colleagues. May their gentle souls rest in peace.”

The fatal military helicopter crash occurred at Adansi Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of all eight individuals on board

The deceased persons were the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The others included Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Samuel Aboagye, NADMO Deputy Director-General.

The remaining three (3) were Airforce officers - Squadron Leader Peter Anala (the pilot), Flying Officer Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
