I never called for a third term for President Mahama - A Plus

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has clarified that he has never called for a third presidential term for President John Dramani Mahama, adomonline.com reports.

It would be recalled that in an interview with KSM on December 16, 2025, the Gomoa Central MP explained that his comments were about testing Ghana’s constitutional term limits, which, in his view, could allow President Mahama to seek a third term.

"I am a hundred percent third term person not because I want JM [John Mahama] to go for a third term, but it's because I don't believe in term limits. I believe that if we have somebody who is building, we must allow the person to build," he said.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the one-time musician clarified his earlier remarks.

He explained that he never called for a third term for the sitting president, but rather advocated for an end to presidential term limits.

“I never called for a third term for John Mahama. What I said was that we should consider ending presidential term limits. Whether it is today, after John Mahama, Bawumia, or Asiedu Nketiah, my point is that Ghana needs to re-examine the issue of term limits. That’s it. Term limits will not help Ghana,” he said.

“There’s no country in this world that has been able to develop with a term limit, Kwame A Plus added in the interview.
