National Karate team invited to the US

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - The Ghana Karate-Do National Team has been invited by the United States Karate Federation to participate in this year's 29th annual national championships and in the Kobudokan International Grand Championship.

The Ambassador for the United Martial Arts Association International (UMAAI), who is currently in Ghana, Sensei Michael Osho, said the US Karate Federation extended the invitation to Ghana because of Ghana's reputation in international karate.

The Ghana National Karate team therefore leaves for the United States on August 15 for the championships which is expected to last for three weeks. The team will later tour a number of states in the US as well as other countries in Europe to participate in series of tournaments in preparations towards the All-African Games slated for Nigeria in October.

The Chairman of the Ghana Karate Association, Lieutenant George Mauld at a meeting with the team urged the karatekas to do their best to win glory for the nation.

Officials expected to accompany the team include Sensei Kudzo Akpalu, the national karate coach, the UMAAI ambassador Sensei Michael Osho and Sensei Prince Wilson.

Meanwhile the Karate Association is appealing to karate lovers and corporate bodies to assist the team, which is now in camp, financially in their preparations.
