Hasmal suspend Owu

THE management of Sekondi Hasaacas Football Club has suspended its regular goalkeeper, George Owu indefinitely as a result of his conduct in last Sunday’s match against Accra Hearts of Oak.

The club said the suspension would only be lifted if management has satisfied itself that the ace goalkeeper has had attitudinal change.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by a a director of the club, Alhaji Mamah Fuseini and copied to the Graphic at Takoradi.

Keeper Owu was shown the red card when he violently attacked Hearts’ Charles Taylor.

He apologised to dignitaries in the VIP Stand, especially the chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Ben Koufie.

The statement expressed concern on the behaviour of the Odorkor Chapter of the Hearts Supporters Union who pelted Hasmal players with missiles after the match resulting in substitute keeper Maxwell Owusu Banahene losing his mobile phone.

It said the case was reported to the ministries Police Station who arrested one person.

Hasaacas called on the GFA to put measures in place to avoid such nasty incidents in the future.

It advised management of Hearts to educate their supporters on how to behave themselves especially when the going gets tough for them.

Meanwhile, George Owu has rendered an unqualified apology to Charles Taylor.

Owu who walked to the offices of the Graphic yesterday morning also apologised to the national coaches present, the GFA Chairman, Mr Ben Koufie and the entire supporters of Sekondi Hasaacas.

“As a national player, I could have done better but I allowed emotions to take the better part of me”, he added.
